Macabi Tel Aviv – Besiktas

Today at 20:00 The israeli soccer team Macabi Tel Aviv will play against the turkish team of besiktas.

As surreal as it may sound, in the midst of Mr. Arduan’s little “war against Israel”, an Israeli team will play against a Turkish team and if all goes well, and the game will run as a football game should it would be a great win both for sports and for freedom.

It doesn’t really matter who wins and who looses, the games shows the Turkish prime minister that no one want’s this situation, we (people throughout the middle east region) are tired of war, threats, tension and fights! The only fight we care to participate in is the one that involves sports and where no one really gets hurt (except for sport injuries :) ).

I really do hope to see the game today and I hope it will be a great game, Macabi Tel Aviv’s trip to Turkey wen through smoothly except for some opportunistic radicals who demonstrated in front of Macabi’s hotel in Turkey although both teams – players and coaches repeatedly stated that they don’t care about politics and they will not answer any politic-nature questions, those few opportunistic miserable people still tried to create mayhem and maybe get some headlines – gladly – it did not happen.

Have a great game Macabi & besiktas!

Threats from the north

It’s a little bit funny…what Mr. Nasralla and his Hizbollah organization are trying to do in the past few days.

Being completely forgotten and having to hide deep underground (litteraly) in Lebanon, Mr. Nasralla and his Hizbollah Terrorists are trying to surface back into the political arena.

The recent threat from Iran’s puppet was that …should Israel start a war Mr. Nasralla will ask his Hizbollah terrorists to conquer the Golan height.

In his recent speech, Nasrall also mentioined the “latest win” when a couple of years ago the Hizbollah Was vanquished and Lebanon turned to a rubble of stones after the IDF decided Israel had enough.

What Mr. Nasralla doesn’t understand is that the IDF currently can afford to obey the international war laws – unlike the Hizbollah that was trying to fight “Iwo Jima” style in the last encounter it had with the IDF, but should Israel feel threatened and should Israeli territory be in danger, the international War laws will no longer apply and the IDF’s answer to fighting underground would be what the US did in Iwo Jima (They burned the island with Napalm) or worse.

I wonder what makes the Hizbollah people go out and fight for a men who vows to sacrifice their life from a well secured location in a bunker underground?

What makes a Hizbollah warrior go out and risk his or her life?

Is it faith? Because no matter what god you believe in – if he asks you to go out and die then its not much of god….

Is it for their leader? Because Israelis also follow their commanders in the IDF, in fact that’s the IDF moto – “follow me!”, but then again, that commander is supposed to lead the attack and go to the field first not hide underground in a bunker.

Is it Ideology? Fighting for the people is a good reason, the thing is – I am not sure the Lebanese citizens want to fight’ in fact I am not sure if they wouldn’t prefer living under a bit more stable government and not have to worry about terrorists fighting and launching rockets from their houses.

To sum it all, I think that any reasonable person going out to fight for a cause must first stop and think – is that cause worth fighting for? Is there a cause?

Avi Cohen a Football legend

Today Israel as a country bows it’s head as one of it’s greatest sports icons left this world. Avi Cohen, one of our top football (Soccer) players died after a week in hospital due to a motocycle accident which led to a head injury.

Avi Cohen was a football star not only in Israel, he played in the legendary football team – Liverpool in it’s greatest days where his first game was in the crowning game of 1979/1980 against Aston Villa, Cohen scored a goal in that game which led to the winning of his team – Liverpool.

Avi cohen kept playing a substantial role in the Israeli football world as a coach and consultant in many teams and organizations. On December 20th he was severely injured in a motorcycle accident and on December 29th he died at the age of 54.

Stormy weather

Israel has been enjoying a fair weather for the past couple of months, but yesterday, all hell broke loose and the storm that swept Europe spreading it’s cold tentackles all over has reached our shores.

One must understand that Israel is a desert country by nature, yes we do have snow occasionally in the Hermon mountain and yes we do have lake galilee up north but in essence, our weather does not include 100 Km/h winds , hail and non stop rain, when such a weather strike our land, disasters will happen eventuallt.

As a result, this morning I woke up to find roofing parts spread all over our neighborhood, broken trees laying around in the middle of the street and of course, the electricity was down for about 3 hours in the morning. We are not equipped for such weather and as a result clothing and heating our houses is a big problem in such stormy days, especially when most of our heating systems is electricity based and when there is no electricity there is no heat.

Sirens are heard all over by ambulance vehicles and fire trucks rushing to deal with pending or already occurring disasters, as if the Carmel forest wasn’t enough – nature is teaching us a lesson.

The Carmel Forest is burning

It’s been two days now that the Carmel mountain and forest is burning out of control, the fire consumed many acres by now and the Israeli fire squads are standing helpless in front of the biggest fire ever to take place on Israeli soil.

The main issue in the news being the fire itself and how unprepared Israeli rescue forces were when it started and the fact that Israel had, for the first time in many years, ask for aid from the international community is shading something really interesting here, where did the fire start? And how did it start?

As for now the estimates are that the fire was not an accident and was actually a case of arson and probably on a national background – I.e. someone wanted to cause damage to the state of Israel and started a fire.

What many people don’t know is that several other fires were started across the country and were put out before they could become dangerous like the Carmel forest fire is now.

In the international community’s favor, we can really say that even countries which were recently in conflict with Israel sent aid such as Turkey, but then again, when a major earthquake hit Turkey, Israel was the first to send aid, in fact, this actually applies to most disasters occurring in the past year over the globe, starting with the Thailand tsunami and until the latest Tahiti earthquake.

It makes you think though, nature has it’s own way of thinning the population and reduce the number of living things in a certain area, so what the hell is everybody fighting for?

The Israeli people act a bit differently in cases of catastrophe then other nations in the world I guess the Jewish history made us a bit more sensitive to other members of our community so the western wall in Jerusalem was filled with Jewish worshipers praying for the safe ending of this catastrophe and the health of those dealing with it.

In short, burn baby burn is what our enemies will say and I say, the first thing to do after the fire is out, is to find out who started it …and why.

It’s been a long time since I …

Well, Led Zeppelin would say “Rock N’ Roll” but I’ll settle for “written on my blog”. No it’s not because there is an all out war in Israel, and certainly not because I do not care about my readers, just been a bit busy, life takes you by surprise when you least expect it, you know what they say.

Another reason I was absent for a while is the lack of sensations lately, no riots, no one is threatening anyone, and it seems too peaceful for the middle east, the end of days perhaps? Time will tell ;)

in any case, the national morale is rising, economy is improving significantly and people on the streets are smiling again after the long period of economic darkness the world experienced, but is that all there is to it? Talking to Israelis, who are well adjusted to such peaceful periods being followed by a period of chaos and uncertainty you will learn that althoug everything seems well, we are planning for the worst. Maybe it’s a Jewish thing, but we are not really used to not being persecuted or threatened at least once a week.

Juts the other day I opened my radio and when they didn’t say anything about some foreign politician condemning Israel for something, I thought the radio was broken, I cannot remember a time when Israel was not condemned for something, anything, selling too orange oranges to other countries, buying too much soda, taking a too long afternoon nap on weekends – anything.

Sarcasm aside, I really do feel, like many of my countrymen, something is “going down” something is boiling underneath awaiting to erupt, I just hope we will have the power to contain it when it does.

Cheers and have a great weekend.

Islamic comics – The 99

A new comic book series named the 99, created by Naif Al Mutawa the series tells the story of 99 heroes, wielding 99 stones each empowering it’s wielder special powers, telepathy, ultra strength, fireballs and more.
The story is not too far from any other story in the comics world, but what is different is the reason the creator claims for creating this comic series, the target audience is naturally children, but the main message is that each stone wielder has a choice to join the forces of good or the forces of evil, much like in real life, Naif claims that the 99 represent Muslims all over the world, which can take the road and path of “good” Islam with it’s gifts and wisdom, or “Bad” Islam who spreads death and war wherever it exists.

I think such a comics series is a very good idea if it would be introduced properly to Muslim children all over the world and if the message keeps staying as it is now, but unfortunately, such endeavors in our days usually come with a lot of money, and as such, the also tend to change their path as they develop. In addition, it is important to have people in Afganistan, Iraq, Iran and similar places get the message, and I’m afraid it will not be a simple task, maybe if goverments join hand and take such a project seriously, it may actually have a chance to make a real change, but until then – I wish the Best of luck to Naif Al Mutawa in his road – may it succeed in stopping violence and advancing peace in the world.

Fifa – Say …. to racism

Kudos to Hapoel Tel Aviv
Wednesday night, Hapoel Tel Aviv, a soccer team from Israel played and won a very important game in Zaltsburg, Austria towards the group stage of the European champions league.
Excited from the win people here in Israel did not notice the yellow card drawn to Hapoel’s forward Ofer Shechter when he scored a goal and put on a yamuka and prayed.
In my eyes, this was a shaming moment to UEFA, FIFA and international Soccer. The Fifa slogan “Say No To Racism” is probably directed towards certain nations and certain nations but towards Israelis or Jewish people.
My question is why do Christians soccer players doing the crucifix sign when they enter the field, get out of the field and score goals do not get a yellow card from the referee? Why don’t Muslim players raising their hands and praying to Allah don’t get a yellow card drawn?

I guess it is an anti-Jew issue, we are used to being treated like that – especially in Europe, but this time it was during a sports event, Is it forbidden to play soccer with a yamuka? Is it wrong to thank the Jewish god after you score? I guess there is no Fifa rule against it, but for some reason, nobody is talking when Jew’s are wronged.

2200 years old coin found in Israel

Finally, some news regarding Israel which are not terror or war related.

A 2200 years old coin was found in Israel and this coin is unique for a number of reasons:it weighs 27.1 grams as opposed to other coins dating as far back which weigh about 4.5 grams, and it is yet another proof of the existence of Jewish people here in Israel 2200 years ago – long before any Muslim even thought about this region.

It is funny though, Arabs claiming continuously that Jewish people are conquerors and that “they were here first” this is their main claim, while all the time, archaeological finds support the existence of Jewish people in the state of Israel all the time.

Every excavation every archaeological dig in the region adds it’s support to Jewish presence in the state of Israel of Jewish people and I guess the world knows this fact to be true, but for some reason, nothing is mentioned in CNN or any other news agency when they write articles such as this one.
