Killing in the name of….

Sorry for being absent for the past few days guys, but I have had a tragic incident in the family and could not get on line. It got me thinking though, life is so short, and tragedy strikes with no distinction weather you are Jewish, Muslim, Christian or what ever, and nature does a pretty good job so how come people insist on creating their own tragedies? Why would anyone set out to kill another? Do they stop and think “what is it really for?” money? , land?, religion? Everything is dwarfed by death….

I guess this is one of the main reasons we are simple beings, we think we are smart with our technologies and equipment but at the end of the day, we are not that different then the lion in the savanna, the main difference is that the lion kills for food, because it has to in order to survive and I can respect that, us Humans – we kill because someone or “something” told us to.

Do people really have kill or hurt other to make a point? And is there any issue in the world worth killing for? If I was god, I would condemn those who kill “in my name” to suffer endlessly, but alas, I am not, and I guess there are those who think killing other will make their god like them more, so I have a question for those who think killing in the name of… is part of god’s wish:

How good is your god if he asks you to kill others (innocent or not) in his name? Would you really like to meet such a god?

Please excuse my enthusiasm I am still emotional by the past few days, but I really gave a lot of thought to the subject, and my Idea of a good life is mainly – living it. Dying or killing in the name of… does not seem to me as my purpose on god’s green earth. I wish we could create a separation between those who wish to live and those who wish to kill those who wish to live, that way, we could get rid of those who kill in the name of…as they will probably kill each other soon enough.

Palestinian Policy – Execution

This Thursday, Hamas, which is the ruling government in Gaza, executed to of their own men for being suspected of collaborating with Israel.

This can really tell a person a lot about the kind of people Israel is dealing with in it’s fight against terror. The fact that these people indeed collaborated with Israel cannot be proven and , now, probably is not a priority for the Hamas and the Palestinians. This is not the first time we encounter executions and capital punishment by Arab regimes just to make a point, human lives do not mean much for those people as we can all see and I doubt if they took the time in finding out the scale of such a “collaboration” or maybe promised the poor guys the regular package (i.e. 72 virgins and a shack on the beach).

The real questions which rise in light of such events is can we really hope to negotiate with such people? Will a peace agreement with them, if ever achieved will be true? And how long will it last before they decide to resume their terrorist acts?

I’m afraid that I am not willing to take the chance and find out. And I think no sane Israeli or anyone around the globe would either. When I was a kid, my father said that he hopes that when I grow up I will never have to go to the army because there will be peace, well I went to the army, and now I’m saying the same thing to my kids, though unfortunately – I don’t believe my own words….

IDF memorial day “Yom Hazikaron”

Today is an important day for Israelis all around the globe. Each and every Israeli will pay his or her respect to the fallen Israeli soldiers who fought along the years in the many military campaigns this country had.

It is imperative to remember that Israel Never even once engaged in a a military conflict willingly, each and every conflict which took place was a necessity to sustain the normal way of life in Israel and for Israelis abroad.

Today at 20:00 and tomorrow at 10:00 Israel time, there will be a siren. A siren which represents the respect we all share for those who died defending our country and us. It is amazing to see how 6 million people stand still for a whole minute both today and tomorrow morning in remembrance of our sons and daughter who gave their lives fighting for this country. Everything simply stops for 60 seconds at a time – twice. Cars stop in the middle of the highway, the banks, shops, airports everything comes to a halt.

I think this day symbolizes the tight connection between Israelis where ever they may be. Although we may not know each other, we all know we will be there for each other in time of need.

The Israeli Soldiers memorial day (“Yom Hazikaron”) is a sad day, a day where we remember the tens of thousands who died for this country, but it is also a happy day, and the fact that the Israeli independence day comes right afterwards (the memorial day ends tomorrow at 20:00 which is exactly when the Israeli independence day begins) merely states the strength of the Jewish people. It says to our enemies:

we are sad and we grieve, but we are twice as strong and we will fight to the end, cause we have no where else to go…”

Equality

Equality

People are talking all the time about equality between races and people in Israel, I think that our social life is more then equal and sometimes even unequal towards the minorities.

Take for example the most important issue, the Israeli Arabs, although they don’t have to join the army like Israeli Jewish citizens for three years, they DO get all the benefits such as social security, healthcare, banking benefits and in some cases as corrective steps such as in universities they are preferred over Jewish students.

ACE is a D.I.Y. Network here in Israel, not long a go they had a sale especially for Arab Israelis – special prices and offers not for everyone – just for Arab Israelis, so I ask you – where is the Equality?

Poor excuse for power

Lately there have been some media reports about Hizbollah leader Hasan Nasralla talking about a war. the exact phrase was I believe: “Israel will go to war with lebanon in the spring….” such a statement amuses me. Why in the spring? When I was in the IDF nobody told me there was favorite season to start wars…

But to get a bit serious here, I think a lot of the Arab leaders such as Hasan Nasralla and Mahmud Ahmedinidjad (Hope I spelled that correctly don’t want to get him mad ;) ) and several other Arab leader which are really redundant to mention, base their right for being in power and ruling over a country or an organization on one thing: hate for Israel.

I can’t believe that people under their reign have no sence at all, what do those so called leaders promise to do for the people? the economy? welfare? employment? anything? Is hate for Israel and Zionism a good enough reason to get elected and rule a whole country?

It seems to me those so called leaders have to only come up with a slogan such as “Let drive Israel into the sea…” and that’s enough for them to win the elections (if one takes place) or overthrow the current (usually more sane) government. I understand people suffering from poverty, hunger, or any other dire cannot really object and will believe almost anything, but this is plain dumb in my eyes.

To all those leaders I have but one thing to say, as I state in many of my articles, This is the 21st century! Israel is not a bunch of people with guns…we are a powerful stable country with military capabilities which allow us to exist no matter how hard you think you can try to fight. in this day and age, countries do not parish not ones with technology and defensive mechanisms such as Israel. It is not a secret that Israel has nuclear capabilities although the official statement is that we don’t, so here’s a point you should really consider:

Say you come in millions with everything you got…

Say you have the best weapons…

Say you have a chance to conquer Israel, what do you think will happen?

When Samson died tied to the pillars of the palestinian temple of Dagon he said: “Tamot Nafshi Im Plishtim” – which means “I shall die along with my enemies” That’s exactly what anyone trying to destroy Israel will face should Israel be cornered to the wall…

on the opposite side, we are a peaceful people, we are great to do business with and there are some amazing places to visit in Israel, wouldn’t it be nicer (and much less painful) to come here as tourists to visit the holy places (and there are many of those here) and enjoy Israeli hospitality?

I think that if you put the two options on the scale you will make the right choice. no sane person wants to die, especially not for political reasons, so just take a moment and think about what you lose and how much you gain if you choose the path of peace.

Israelis Caring mentality

If you have necer been to Israel, you will be amazed about how people care for each other on the street. not to say Israelis are polite or have good manners, actually people on the street are not as polite as European or American people but, in my eyes at least, from my experiance people in Israel will pick you up if you fall on the street, people in Israel will lend ou a hand if you’ll need it. If your car is broken in the middle of the road before you can say jack… you have 5 people under the hood trying to help.

carrying a big package on the street? in no time you’ll have people helping you carry the weight.

And I think it’s mainly because we were educated by those who lived differently abroad, that the only way we can and will survive is by being together.

The feeling of unity in Israel as I mentioned in another article in this blog is second to none. The way people offer their help is unique and I don’t think there is anywhere else on this planet that people help each other in such a way, although we have seen situations around the globe where a disaster brought people together, I guess it is the constant threat on the entire country which causes people to behave in such a manner.
